A person's smile can have a powerful effect on their self-esteem, especially if it's not everything they wish it could be. If your teeth are less than perfect, you may be reluctant to smile, talk, or laugh around other people. It can even cause depression and anxiety.

For many years, the only solution to correct gaps, crooked teeth, misaligned teeth, overbites, and other issues was traditional wire-and-bracket braces. This type of braces has several drawbacks. They are unattractive, feel uncomfortable, and are nearly impossible to keep clean.

If you've always wanted to improve the appearance of your smile, our Naugatuck, CT dental office has a solution that may work for you: Invisalign treatment!

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a teeth-straightening treatment option that uses a series of clear plastic trays to gently correct the alignment of your teeth. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign can be removed to eat and brush, making it easy to keep your teeth clean during treatment.

The Invisalign trays are practically invisible, so you don't have to worry about a metal smile or the discomfort of brackets and wires in your mouth. With Invisalign, you can straighten your teeth comfortably without anyone even knowing you're wearing it. The Invisalign treatment process also means fewer trips to our office for adjustments, because the treatment is all in the trays!

How Does It Work?

If Dr. Almeida determines that you are a good candidate for Invisalign treatment, we will take photos, x-rays, and impressions of your teeth to create a 3-D model of your mouth. From this model, your customized Invisalign aligners will be crafted and delivered to our office.

Each set of aligners is worn for approximately two weeks. You can remove the aligner trays to eat and brush your teeth, but we recommend wearing them for at least 20–22 hours per day for optimum results. Every two weeks, you will move to the next set of aligners in the series, and you'll check back in with our office approximately every six weeks so we can monitor your progress and give you the next series of aligners.

The treatment time varies for each patient, but the average treatment time with Invisalign is one year, similar to the treatment for standard metal braces. Once your treatment is complete, our Naugatuck dentists will fit you for a retainer to maintain your beautiful new smile.
