Digital Dental X-Rays

When approaching dental care, we believe in addressing conditions in their earliest stages so that we can prevent painful dental emergencies and protect your smile. By taking a preventive approach to care, we can help you minimize treatment and avoid many common dental conditions. This saves patients just like you both time and money.

With routine dental exams, professional dental cleanings, and diagnostic x-rays, you are taking the best steps to protect your dental health.

Digital Dental X-Rays

While we can diagnose many dental conditions effectively with a visual exam, some treatment requires a more in-depth look at your teeth and bone. Digital dental x-rays allow us to see what is beneath the surface of your enamel and between your teeth, where we cannot see with the naked eye alone.

By using digital dental x-rays, we can diagnose dental decay, infection, and bone loss. High-resolution imaging allows us to detect conditions earlier than ever because we can see more detail and adjust brightness and contrast to get the most accurate image possible.

Safety of Dental X-Rays

Many patients are concerned about the level of radiation they receive. Dental x-rays have always been among the lowest in radiation. With the implementation of digital imaging in dentistry, that amount is reduced by 80-90%, making digital dental x-rays even safer. You can receive greater levels of radiation just by being outdoors.

We take only the necessary x-rays to monitor your oral health, unless an emergency arises. We determine your need for dental x-rays on your dental history on an individual basis. We can discuss this with you after a comprehensive evaluation.

If you have questions about the safety of dental x-rays or questions about radiation, we encourage you to ask. We are happy to help.

Intraoral Camera

In addition to dental x-rays, we also use an intraoral camera to assist with diagnosis, monitor your health, plan treatment, and explain dental conditions. An intraoral camera is a small digital photographic and video device that fits comfortably inside your mouth. We can take photographs of individual teeth, gums, lesions, and growths so that we can show you what we see during a visual exam.

This is beneficial for monitoring your health, noting any changes, and even for submitting additional information to your insurance company. By implementing this high-tech tool, it allows us to make more accurate and precise diagnoses.

Frequently Asked Questions

When patients question the need for x-rays, they usually have one of two questions in mind:

Are they expensive? Are they safe?

We use digital dental x-rays to diagnose conditions such as decay and bone loss in our patients. By taking routine dental x-rays, we can monitor subtle changes over time and catch anything that may require our attention before it becomes serious.

Dental x-rays are not a catch-all when it comes to diagnosing dental conditions. They do, however, certainly help us make accurate diagnoses and alert you to anything you should be aware of in a more timely fashion so that we can address it while it is still small and manageable.

The cost of dental x-rays compared to major dental treatment is negligible. By making a small preventive investment in your health, you can save money in the long-term, not to mention time and hassle.

The safety of dental x-rays has always been high. Because we are taking images of your teeth, a very small part of your body, not much radiation is required. With the implementation of digital x-rays, we have decreased the levels of radiation by up to 90%, making them even safer. You can receive more radiation from the atmosphere when outdoors.
